on the fifth day he itched

I'm going mad. Started last night. I'm itching like crazy. Is this normal during withdrawal? Frankly I'm surprised my withdrawal hasn't been worse considering when I'm active in my drinking I consume about a 12 pack of high alcohol content beer, such as the Ice varieties daily for the better part of 15 years. So far just palpitations and sweating the first few days, now just itch like mad.

I itched like a maniac, I think it was after the first 3 days for a week or so.

Me too - itchy, creepy-crawly skin. About a week for me also.

The itching is the worst part of the withdrawals in my experience, it is horrendous but thankfully it passes pretty quick and I found the more water I drank the more relief I got from the itching.

Well done so far, you are doing great.

Yes! It felt like I was being attacked by mosquitos and heavy night sweats. I agree on the drinking of plain water.

The itching is part of the detoxing. Alcohol breakdown products leaving through the skin. I used Desitin, it helped but it'll pass.

It is common to itch when withdrawing from Alcohol,it can last for weeks.

Get checked by a Doctor if it carries on,it can be a symptom of liver damage.

My itching started on the third day and lasted three days. It has been 23 days for me sober and still have night sweats and afternoon headaches; thankfully no more itching, insomnia, or nightmares.

Benedryl. It also helps with anxiety and insomnia. This is my personal experience, not medical advice.

I think I should see a Doc. I have been getting a dull ache where my liver is.

Is itching partly have to do with dry skin since alcoholics are often dehydrated?

I itched on and off for about two weeks. It seemed to hit me the worse at night when I got into bed. It was a good thing I have a back scratcher!

As I was typing this I started to itch. Dang power of suggestion I guess!

Congrats on pushing through detoxing! My itching was more when I was still drinking but more-so when I reduced my intake several weeks prior to stopping . All I know is I took supplements and ate a lot and it went away. I've read a lot of posts confirming it's common (doesn't make it easier) but it does pass--hang in there.
