Robin Williams participated in a reddit IAmA thread in 2013 with thousands of online users in essentially a near live QA session. Its fascinating...

Robin Williams. It's time for a convoluted stream of consciousness. Ask Me Anything! : IAmA

Some ask him about his problems with drugs and alcohol and other quit intimate questions.

One of the greatest gifts is not knowing all the answers your approach may not work for another as for big book and any book on sobriety it is a book your life is individual and your own and in this case for reasons I don't want to know he took his life and i just pray for his soul

He had battled for decades my gf asked is he selfish I said no, for

battling that long its a shame he couldn't see a way out other than this, so so tragic

Completely impossible to pick a best line, or even a hundred, from those vids. I did like this one though: "Jack Nicholson has done every drug known to mankind. He's the only guy in the world to whom Keith Richards would say: "I have to go home now man.""

The bright spot for me in this event is realizing that through the wonder of recorded video, Robin Williams will never, ever die.

I was just thinking about this a little more... This is a deep disease, with only deep solutions. Deep, yet simple. Ego (self) can't solve the problem because ego is the problem.

Ego (self) is not the inherent problem, is my experience. How we live with ourselves and others, how we choose to journey forward can indeed be problematic. When we affirm we ourselves are the entire root of the problem in life, and not our actions (or inactions), then we doom ourselves to servitude to our own hates and bind ourselves into slavery to a base existence.

My ego (self) is not, was not, and never will be the actual "problem". I'm not the solution either, lol. How I choose to live my life, and the results of my life are the fulcrum point of living or not living a life worth living.

To my reading, step 3 suggests otherwise:

"Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over"

Over-complicating has been problematic for me. Now I keep it simple, I surrendered. I finally found peace with myself by surrendering myself; my will and my life.

Perhaps he meant attaching one's ego to a perceived problem? The attachment or connection I make in my mind between my own ego, and X problem... maybe that's the real "problem" or when something becomes a problem. Non-attachment might be a solution.

Personally, I think it's incidental and not necessarily even true. Perhaps the veracity of that will come out, perhaps not. Robin was an alcoholic. Many alcoholics die from that disease.

Yes they do. My mother died from it. Suicide as well. So unfortunately, I have experience with this first hand.

Robin Williams will be sorely missed.

Yes, in the steps I have indeed turned over my alcoholic mind over to my understanding of my HP, which happens to be sobriety in fact for me anyways. In return to turning over my addicted alcoholic psyche, I have a wholly new sober psyche and new life as well. As for my new life being turned over, not so fast.

My spiritual life vastly supersedes my past alcoholic life. I'm successfully sober to live my life. I'm not living my life to be sober. I'm free at last, and I won't now become a slave to sobriety. To each their own understanding of course.

My life was not spiritually driven before. Now it is. I think it's a matter of semantics from there Robby so I think we agree.

Robin Williams was depressed at least in part due to financial problems. He paid his first wife 30 million dollars. Then, as his career ebbed, he had to take work he didn't want just to pay his bills.

He may be a victim of a court system that eviscerates men, rather than a victim of addiction.

I'm sure he made lots of excuses for himself too. We all do. Fact is, he just went to rehab again for a reason. He knew he was in trouble.
