New Here
Greetings. I am new here. I am 44 years old and it took an incident of binge drinking and being confronted about it the next day to clear the alcoholic fog from my eyes and make me see what was really going on. I live alone and have over the past year allowed myself to drink more and more without realizing the symptoms I was experiencing. I just feel so lost right now.

Thanks
I appreciate the welcome. I am so scared right now about many things, losing my job being prime among them. I have no one to blame but myself. In a way though it made me see what i was doing every single night to myself. I feel so useless because I have still drank today from fear, nervousness, and lonliness. From messages I have read thus far, I see I am not alone and that feels good.

dont beat yourself up over it. the bad things that happen while we are powerless to alcohol is pretty normal. It goes with the territory. Once you sober up these things get better and we no longer have those issues.
It took my drinking having to get to all new heights for me to finally wake up one day.
good news is it gets easier from here.

Give yourself time for the 'fog' to lift.
You will not always feel way the way you do today.
I promise your feelings will change.
It may take time though and not just a few days or weeks.
Don't think too far ahead and just concentrate on the day you wake up to.
When you feel overwhelmed or lost or fearful, we are always here, night and day.
If you are temped to drink, come here first.
Thats is what worked for me.
I think when we drink the way we do or did to deal with issues that scare us, we can't cope with or we don't like, we get that quick gratification.
Its learning that really the quick gratification of a drink does not solve the problem, it merely masks it. It does not make it go away. It is still filed somewhere in our mind so it has to be dealt with later on.
The more problems we drink over just creates a lot more mental filing and eventually all the problems over flow and we have to sort them out.
I wish you the best xx
