Goodbye again, Mr. Sponsor.
More prayers from me. I had a slightly similar experience a few weeks back. A woman came in to the treatment center I went to with pretty severe alcohol withdrawls. However, she wouldn't let her family take her to de-tox and wasn't honest with the staff at the center. She did tell one of my friends there how she was feeling, and asked my friend to help cover for her so she wouldn't have to go to a hospital. After being there a couple of hours, she told my friend she needed to go throw up and she'd be back in a few minutes. Well, my friend waited and while and when she didn't come back, she went to check on her. She had choked on her own vomit. She was dead.
It's just so sad. The only thing we can do is remember these things when we think about picking up again. This disease kills........ in many different ways. I am glad to hear that your friend will wake up. He is very lucky to have people in his life like you who care about him enough to do something. I will pray that he wakes up a whole person and that he can find the strength to not go back.

I was at an Alanon meeting last night and someone said that July is relapse month. I've seen it next door (my neighbor's ex who is now drinking a 12 pack a day), and the woman at Alanon who's husband went out on crack - a guy that I saw at Alanon meetings with her just 2 weeks ago. And now your story - OMG.
Prayers for all,
James

Ann, thank you for your continued prayers. We do believe eh
James, it's been mentioned to me as well that July can be a bad month. But if you think about it, relapse has no time frame. It's around the corner, right there.
I want to clarify something. My sponsor decided to kill himself the only way he knew he could go through with it. Relapse? Sure. It's only a word at this juncture, and it's all academic anyway.
Prayers for you and yours too James.

Yup, Dan, we DO believe!!! This is one of my favourite songs and thought you might like it....
I Believe
I believe for every drop of rain that falls a flower grows
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night a candle glows
I believe for everyone who goes astray someone will come to show the way
I believe, I believe
I believe above the storm the smallest prayer will still be heard
I believe that someone in the great somewhere hears every word
Every time I hear a newborn baby cry or touch a leaf or see the sky
Then I know why I believe
I Believe
I believe for every drop of rain that falls a flower grows
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night a candle glows
I believe for everyone who goes astray someone will come to show the way

I believe above the storm the smallest prayer will still be heard

I go to set up for a meeting and look what I miss! I wish I had been amonst the first to this post, but, alas, I'm a latecomer.

Dan, My prayers go out to you and your sponsor. Thanks for sharing this with us. Many times we put our sponsors up on a "higher level". I know I tend somtimes to forget the fact that my sponsor could also relapse. He is not more immune to alcohol than me. It is an example of how we are never cured from alcoholism. "We are only granted a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition."
Hey Dano,
What a wild ride you have been on these days man. Never a dull moment for you, eh? But you still keep on going don't you? I'll tell you again how much I admire you for continuing to keep doing the next right thing.
Incredible to really begin to fathom the very dark place alcoholism can take a person. Your sponsor must have been in a great deal of pain. He's got a good friend in you Dan. Even if he never has the chance to understand this fact. It's a very sad story you have been involved with here Dan. Unfortunatly, it sounds like it may have an even sadder ending. This experience will no doubt leave a lasting mark on your life.
My most sincere wishes of hope and peace of mind go out to you this night.
