double (sorry)

I don't know why but this is a really interesting thread. The replies give some room for thinking. During a PAWS-episode it is clear that the IQ, whatever is left of it will drop by 80 points to barren readings... quite so.

In any case, from what I've heard the following statements are true:
* people who are not very intelligent, namely tend to think that they are very intelligent (or gifted as pointed out before). This is mainly propably due to the inability to be aware of one's own thought processes and limitations in respect to it. Alcohol causes this for certain. So the smarter you are, the more you are aware of your own limitations and flaws, and realize that your image or perception of the matter is quite limited and that there is something outside of your scope or vision.
* there are many forms of iq. This is interesting as the emotional intellect was mentioned there. I actually believe that lesbians (female) have some kind of very high emotional intellect in common. Memory is one thing that is propably measured, next one being the ability to compose in your mind very complex imagery and ideation about advanced math formulas and see them with perfect clarity. This requires a good memory and high advanced cognitive functions used well.

So once more an interesting topic. Sorry about double post folks.

Lol this made me really laugh.

Looking at the poll results one third of the people who voted are at or above Genius IQ.

Then i remembered that a score if 140+ is only relative to the test and there are some dodgy tests out there!

I did take a mensa test at school but that was years ago so i have no idea what my IQ is?!

actually, according to most charts 130-144 is considered gifted. its the range just below genius 145-159 is genius im around 130-135 i call it a lesser genius lol but @ 130 you actually are close to genius

Yeah. If you aren't, but think you are, you're in trouble. If you really are, you're in more... better find another room.

I believe the true hallmark of intellect is not found in iq-tests, but in the ability to learn new abilities and its efficacy.
'
I also believe the world today is full of people who are looked up upon and seen very intelligent. When they are not very intelligent at all. Clever perhaps in certain ways, but their motivations may reveal a basic human or animal aspect of their behaviours.

The ability to learn is the most important part of intelligence. Just my 2 cents.

I agree. I believe greater intelligence allows one to learn and acquire what really counts, wisdom, more quickly and efficiently. That is if one doesn't allow one's intelligence to get in the way, lol.

I was probably about a 6 when I was last hospitalized for drinking.

I'm not sure where you are headed with this but do you really expect to have accurate data from a poll like this? The results of the data collected here are skewed very high. 100 is supposed to represent the average of all people. The data shows almost everyone being 120 and higher, way to high to be credible.

IQ is fallacious as a gauge of practical intelligence. I subscribe to the multiple intelligences theory, simply because it much better represents the real world.

The results in this thread make it look like a social experiment, fascinating to see how we want others to perceive us. I've scored well on some, less so on others, but they're honestly not worth putting too much stock in whatever the result. Being smart with how you think is more important than your inherent processing power. It's how you use it that counts.

I know some very, very dumb intelligent people.

I believe this tragic event perfectly illustrates the whole point of this thread. What do you think Robin Williams' IQ was? I believe it was probably quite, quite high.

When a sex questionnaire was administered as part of a study, it was discovered that most men over measured a certain thing.

Just sayin. We're all smarter than we think we are. And we're also not as smart as we think we are.
