5+ months of daily drinking 15+ standards. Withdrawal?

Should I expect bad withdrawal when stopping? I do get the shakes by mid afternoon already until I have my first couple for the day.

Hi itsme, welcome to sr. Lots of help here but medically it's worth speaking with your doc.

I agree with Mags; definitely best to involve your doctor in your sobriety plans.

Welcome, itsme11.

Are the past 5 months the first time you've been drinking, or do you have a longer history and 5 months is just how long you've been drinking since starting up again?

In either case, if you're getting the shakes, to be on the safe side I'd involve your doctor.

Hi and welcome.
Alcohol affects us in many little ways which results in system differences. Be aware that withdrawal can be very dangerous and medical help is needed so seeing your doctor and being honest about your drinking can be lifesaving.

Thanks guys. Was hoping to avoid the doctor as I'm already taking what they give you for withdrawal for my anxiety so I'm not sure the medication will help me much

Unless the doctor who prescribe the meds did so specifically to help you detox, I would highly suggest following up. Drinking as much as you do with meds is a very dangerous combo and detoxing can be dangerous, even life threatening. Please see your doctor.

No I got the meds for general anxiety before the drinking which started after we had a miscarriage and I was off work for awhile

I agree...you never know what can happen. Best bet is to see your doctor.

This actually gives you even MORE of a reason to see your Dr. Please do so.

Withdrawals vary wildly. Sometimes nothing, sometimes everything. Shaking hands isn't a good sign. I've had seizures, hallucinated, gone to an ER.

See a doctor. More than likely they will give you Librium or something similar. It will make it a lot easier to quit, and prevent seizures.

It's very difficult to predict withdrawals as people are different, as others have said, best checking in with a Dr to be safe!!

Withdrawal are unpredictable. I had a very bad home detox - ministrokes.

Not saying that will happen to you, but the stakes can be pretty high.

See your Dr, itsme

It sounds like you should talk to your DR and think about your detoxing options. Detox can be dangerous and you should consider detoxing under medical supervision, good luck.

If you are shaking by the afternoon, that sounds like withdrawal. You should involve your doctor.
