question about detox

if you check into a place for detox how many days are you usually there for? i assume its probably different for everyone but how do they determine how long you need to stay?

it depends on how bad off you are and what your DOC is, but for alcohol generally 5-7 days.

I was in Kaiser Permanente De-tox for 3 days. Then released and went into in-house Rehab for 30 days. That was almost 20 months ago.... :grouphug: Bobbi

If you're just going to a regular hospital they'll try to get you out as quickly as possible, while safely. It's not like an insult, they just have a whole bunch of other things to deal with as well so if they can get the detox patients out in order to free up beds for like terminally ill patients, they're going to do that as efficiently, safely, and quickly as possible. I was checked into an ER with a .5 BAC and they had me out in two days.

A detox center is going to keep you there as long as humanly possible, on the other hand, since they profit off of that. It's not like they're not going to give you good treatment at the detox facility, but you can easily go from the ER and then have the doctor give you a script and detox at home for way cheaper than a treatment facility.

Most hospitals are pretty amicable about giving support group information out for free as well.
