Oddball question re: allergic response

Hi folks. This is a really strange one.

Has anyone experienced allergy-like symptoms in early abstinence? Watering eyes, itching, runny nose? I take a daily loratidine but just had to take two diphenhydramine to get it to stop. It came on me suddenly yesterday about noon. Pollen and mold are negligible around here right now.

Not aware of any substance that has the effect of causing the release of histamines when it is absent.

Well, would the absence of alcohol make me more sensitive to allergens?

I'm dying to answer that question. But I can't.

Just hang in there trachemys. See a doc if it seems rather abnormal.

I had this almost each time I stayed sober for 1-2 days only even. Watering/itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing. At first I did think that I was developing an allergy, but there was a perfect correlations with my abstinent days. It went away completely after about a week of sobriety.

In recent years, there has actually been accumulating evidence from research that certain components of the immune system get compromised in addiction and this can cause inflammation-like symptoms. Probably we vary in who is prone to this and who is less so.

I have had hayfever all my life. Actually, as I think about it, it started in my early teens around the time I started drinking. Pollen and cats seem to be the worst, and it's wierd that I can get hayfever on wet days when you would think any pollen or dust would have been damped down.

Right now I am suffering, and I am having trouble finding an effective antihistamine.

I sometimes wonder if this has anything to do with Silkworth's allergy theory. Heannies comments above certainly ring bells for me.

Thanks so much for that, haennie. It popped up for a day last week(first week abstinent) and again yesterday. Hopefully it'll go away as quickly as it came.

Update: Woke up this morning to a total absence of allergy-like symptoms.

That is so freakin' bizarre.

or maybe it is something that was happening when you were drinking but now are aware of without the alcohol?

I don't think so. These symptoms were near debilitating without medication. Even then they were noticeable.

Maybe you simply had a cold/virus?

I don't think so. It happened last week for a day, this week for a day and a half. Pure nasal response to allergen symptoms.
