Hey guys (and girls.) I've been on and off alcohol for about two years now. I've been drinking for about 5 days and I need to quit again tomorrow. I was just hoping to get some encouraging words on getting through day 1 again. I'm not at the point where I need medical help but I know that the anxiety during that first day will be difficult. Any advice is appreciated!
Early recovery and later recovery are two completely different animals. I would try not to dwell on tomorrow too much, just get through it. From my experience it is not the early days that are going to matter in a few months. Sure, you have to get through the early days to get to the later ones but it is the later ones that are going to give you the most trouble.
I usually feel reserved about giving too much advice for the early days other than watch out for bad withdrawals. Those first couple days are just getting through the jitters and real recovery is very far from the picture. Just one day at a time and try to get past 30 days, then 60 and so on. The only way you are going to make it to the hardest hurdles occurring at 90 days and beyond is to make it there in one piece.
I'm rooting for you.

maybe pick up a copy of the AA Big Book at a used book store
or they are also available at any AA meeting
most cities have what we call AA Central
a call to them will give you a listing of the local AA meetings
stay close to this site if you wish
it has been of great help for many wishing to get sober
and
stay sober

Great question. I guess I mistakenly feel like I can handle it. Not in the sense that I can drink in moderation but in the sense that I feel like I can cut it out when I need to. Very dangerous.
Remind yourself of this the next time you want to imbibe. You have already proven to yourself that you can't moderate. Why test the same fate over and over with the same result. Time to close the curtain on that act.

Hi. This period can be rewarding because IF there is a next time your inclined to drink again you might “REMEMBER WHEN” the rewards were far overblown, every time.
I needed to remember that if I did not pick up the first drink I would NOT have to try to get sober AGAIN.
BE WELL
