criminal charges

Who here has ever faced charges for drinking?
I never have as I have never broken the law, but today is day 5 and what seems to be working for me is more and more information about the bad side of drinking.
Anybody willing to share their stories?

Heh heh. I don't think I'd admit to breaking the law in a publicly viewed forum.

Not that I've e v e r broken the law.

I never did break the law.
I wanted to hear things people may have gone through. Sort of like a confirmation like..yep.. I want to avoid that.

Doing things under the influence is one of the main reasons I quit drinking, I have done many silly things that I would never have done sober but I suppose that's because it is a mind altering substance, I have never broke any law that I'm aware of though.

Hey tiel, keep reading the Newcomer threads and your eyes will be opened as to how bad things can get!!

Personally my drinking was spiralling out of control, so who knows where it would have ended up!!

If it hadn't been for legal consequences, I woulda thought my life was great as a drunk.
In a sober state of mind I came to the realization, I enjoy driving and walking the streets as opposed to being in a drunk tank at the county jail.

I admire people coming in with out having to go as far down the scale as I did.

I got a friend that started coming to AA with out the yets.
He mentioned after a meeting, he'd never got a DUI, never lost a job, went to rehab, divorced etc. with in a two year period, got two DUI's lost two jobs, a stint in rehab, a divorce and he's now living in a half way house.

Harsh reality maybe not for everyone but, unfortunely it often gets unbelievably bad before people admit and accept their alcoholism

I got busted, fined and banned for drink driving.
Heard a story in AA.
Guy doing service did some prison work.
Met a guy who woke up and found his partner stabbed to death.
He said, " They say I killed her. But I can't remember".

Have you been to an AA meeting? Go to a few and just sit and listen. You'll be amazed.

When it comes to drinking, we reap what we sow. You want to read about the bad side of drinking, read the havoc our drinking brings to our loved ones in the friends and family forum.

Carl mentioned reading the friends and family section... I couldn't agree more. It was hard to read some of that a year ago. I recommend reading it too... if you are able to!

RecklessEric... wow! Quite a story. That's horribly sad.

If you mean a DUI I had one 9 months ago. I had never as much as had a traffic ticket. First offense, with a BAC over .15 the penalties go up: Pulled over at 43 on my way home from a friends wedding and blew a .202. Spent the night in jail with some really scary people.
~ Bail $500 to get out the next morning, released to stand outside in small town with pounding headache in the rain to wait on a ride
~ Car impounded, cost $300 to get out, had to get a ride to the tow place
~ Hired attorney $2,500
~ Had to miss multiple days or hours at work to attend court dates
~ Licence suspended 90 days, obtained a Hardship License, can only drive certain hours
~ $125 fee to get license back
~ $1,800 Court and Fine Fees
~ 12 hours drunk driving class
~ 24 hours community service
~ 18 months Probation, monthly visits to a probation office required where I pay $60 per month
~ MADD impact panel class
~My car was outfitted with an interlock system (my time on that is almost up due to good reports) $200 Installation fee and $90 a month, this machine is terribly embarrassing and there is no way you can drink around it. It will pick up a hangover the next day, even mouthwash will set it off, and if you violate the machine, you're in big trouble!
~ it's on my permanent record now and will pull up at all my background checks.

I'm a single mom and this has been a financial nightmare with all the fees and hiring babysitters so I can take classes, community service etc. Not to mention the humiliation of having a blow machine on my car. I'm a professional and have a leadership position in my kids PTA board..those parents would judge me in a heartbeat if they knew..I'm always walking on eggshells. I'd do anything to not go thru this again and wish I had seen the light earlier. But it was the kick in the butt I needed, so as bad as it sucks, it saved me. So yep, you want to avoid this! Good luck!

I drove drunk thousands of times and never got caught. Still, it gave me the permanent "scofflaw" feeling. I still love always being 100% sober behind the wheel or anywhere else.

No legal problems here. But alcohol is my problem.

Minor legal problems years ago. All of my problems have nothing to do with laws. All of my problems have everything to do with me.

Never had any legal consequences, but not for the lack of effort or opportunities.

I have driven drunk thousands of times. Thank God I never hurt anyone. Just because I never got caught does not make it any less illegal.

I am so great full that I am not that person any more.

Like others here, driven drunk a lot but never hurt anyone and never got caught (Amazing Angel watching over me). But the terrible part is the HUNDREDS of embarrassing things I've said and done and the HUNDREDS of wasted hours. I could probably be a concert pianist if I had applied all those hours to piano lessons (LOL) or painter, etc...you get the picture.

I was facing charges, but not charged, for the death of another human. it didn't stop me from drinking.
got my 1st DUI some time ago.it didn't stop me from drinking
got my 2nd 11 years ago. it didn't stop me from drinking.

knowing the consequences of drinking didn't stop me from drinking.
it was desperation.

Tiel, do an "Advanced Search" (see the "Search" option drop down menu at the top of the page) on this site. Use the keyword "arrested" and only do a search for that word in post titles. You should find enough information regarding criminal charges to keep you busy for awhile.

You can also use other keywords such as "court", "DUI", "jail", "prison" etc.
