Stay there and listen to the Docs, they can help you and give you something to stop the seizures. There is no hurry, you are safe at the hospital. If you need anything ask for a social worker. Take care.

No commitment is worth your life.
Stay in the hospital as long as deemed necessary. Let them figure out if there are other electrolyte or chemical imbalances exacerbating your seizures. Let them titrate meds to calm your nervous system if needed. Get some rest. Get some healthy food. You're there already - get the help and access to resources if you need them.

Take care. And let people take care of you.

Length of stay varies. As it's your second seizure, it's likely to be longer. Will also vary depending on if you have other symptoms eg. High blood pressure. Will depend on your current age, health status as well as blood values such as hydration, electrolyte balance, etc. will also depend on if you've had seizures before, or if you've detoxed multiple times as this can lead to a "kindling" response, leaving you more open to negative outcome without managed detox.

Will also depend on your drinking history as well as how you respond to any treatment. Also, individual hospitals and doctors have different management protocols to improve patient outcome and reduce liability.

What kind of seizure did you have? Tonic, Clonic, or Tonic-Clonic?

Considering you had your 2nd seizure...I wouldn't take this lightly. I'd stay at the hospital until your 100% ready/safe to come home. I'm guessing you're detoxing in the hospital...if so, stick it out. Good luck to you.

How are you going Rock?, I hope things are going okay for you.
Keep us posted.
Staying close to SR helps a lot of us, especially having so many of us knowing what you are going through.
Thinking of you. I hope they are looking after you at the hospital. They know what they are doing.

I take it this was related to alcohol withdrawal..? I hope you're doing better. They will keep you in the hospital until they are sure you are no longer at risk of having another seizure. Take care.

I'm still here and have to leave tomorrow no matter what. I've been in here since Wednesday. Haven't had a drink since last Sunday. I'm on 1 mg of Ativan between every 4 and 8 hours. Physically I feel fine. If they won't discharge me, I might have to leave against medical advice. Heading to a rehab next week.

Rock I am glad you updated us.
Have you spoken to the Docs? Asked them why they are keeping you.
In my experience they will keep you the shortest time possible and release you when it is safe to do so. Hospital beds are expensive.
It is very important that you listen to the docs, seizures are a medical emergency.

Rock, I lost my brother, he had a seizure and drowned.

Withdrawal can be deadly. .. don't take medical advice lightly. I used to work 911 dispatch and took lots of medical emergency calls for people in alcohol wds. Nothing to play around with.

Ahh, I'm on day 9 and got the cravings very badly right now. I'm sitting here by myself and debating going to the store. I'm heading to rehab in a few days and visiting my doctor tomorrow. This sucks. Just got off the phone with work and am taking a leave of absence so that is all set. I'm stressed!!

Congrats on day 9,that's some great progress. Make sure you aren't hungry, thirsty, tired - many of those basic needs left unmet can bring on the cravings. Take a walk or do something to get your mind off it if you can. Anyting but drinking...you've got some great things coming up and you don't want to set yourself back.
