Not drinking is more fun!
I got tickets for three friends, one who quit drinking with me three years ago and two who are moderate/heavy drinkers, to a show at a bar the other night and we had a great time. I've been going to see rock and roll shows for thirty years but the last couple that I've seen since I got sober have been the best!
The bar tenders love to serve me all the coffee and water that I want. I can remember their names and tip them well and not make a fool out of myself.
I can remember everything.
I can stay up through the whole thing then drive home.
I don't get in any kind of fights.
I have no problems with the police.
I don't get sick and I don't have a hangover the next day.
I still have money left.
None of these things were true before. It really does get better.

Thats the obsession that likes to trick us thinking that achieving sobriety is no fun.
If we are honest with ourselves, we can see that while drinking, if we are in our later stages of the alcoholic cycle, its actually not fun, not fun at all. Sure it was fun early on, but for some, it went sour faast.

I agree that not drinking is more fun. I am so much more free to do so many more things now. When I drank, that was all I did. Even when I did other things like going to a concert, I was still drinking. Now I have so many more options.
Great post.
I can relate to the "all the coffee/water you could" want statement. In the few instances I've been to a bar in the past year, I find that I connect with the bartenders in ways that I didn't before.
I've also found that sobriety is much more fun than drinking. Not sure why I had convinced myself that it wouldn't be, but there isn't one thing about a buzz that makes a meal/activity/event/trip better. I have way more fun sober (both throughout the event, then, after it's over).
Thanks again for the reminder!

Sober is SO much better! I love that I don't need any substance to have a great time.
I agree with everything on your list. I would add one more sentence and that would be:
At the end of the night I know where my clothes are because they are still on me.
I put myself in so many risky situations when drinking. I have been taken advantage of because of being either blacked out or passed out. Honestly, I'm glad there are parts I don't remember.

Lol, I'm doing things in the reverse order of your tag line DG0409 but no matter, sounds like we both got the most critical one pretty much licked. Cigarettes are deadly too but I found alcohol was killing me much faster and doing a lot more damage all around me.
Isn't it nice to leave a place in the evening with dignity fully intact?
It takes some practice but you do find out that attending events sober is far better.
When I get invited to things now I no longer lament that I won't be able to drink. I'm relieved that I can open my eyes the next morning feeling just fine with no question as to what happened.

Thanks for reminding me. It's to easy to forget and deceive myself.
This truly is the better life for a drunk such as myself.

I not to place yet where sober is more fun, not that drinking fun, hella no, not been fun for 20+ years, and can no even remember much of anything about decade when I had in mind that oblivion was preferable to reality. I looking forward to what you describes!
