Day 6
Made it to Day 6 and I have some thoughts. First off I am worried because I am home all day without a lot to do. Normally I would go pick up some beer around 3 and start cracking them while playing online games with friends. I am not going to drink today, I don't know about tomorrow, but I wont drink today.
It also seems that a lot of my triggers are due to the stress of saving for a house and working two jobs. I picked up a few books about living in the moment and trying to slow down to enjoy the small things. After reading a lot of the posts on here, I think that we are all in similar buckets. I think I need to treat the stress first, then the rest will be easier.
Just a few thoughts, I'm sorry for posting so much but it helps to vent a little.

Hi, always good to get your feelings out, takes a load off.
I think it's just about breaking the habits we get ourselves into, like drinking at certain times etc. being home all day is a hard one boredom sets in, believe me I've just lost my job and my wife is away on vacation for 2 weeks with her pholks so it's just me and my dog here, but you have to just suck it up and battle on, you will be just fine.

Caleb,
post away! as much as you need or want.
that's what forums are for.
and i imagine there are TONS of things to do, but when newly sober it's easy to be at a loss as the experience of doing things soberly is what's missing. or of doing new things.
making plans, concrete plans, for filling up the time has been a useful thing for me at the beginning. my real-life sober buddy started a brand-new-to-him activity every month, and has found that hugely helpful.
here's a list of some possible things to do if you can't think of any: SoberThings | The LifeRing Home Page
congrats on day 6, and keep going!

Right now I would just try not to over think things. Keep thoughts of drinking out of your head. Those games still play just fine if not better with some of your favorite snacks and seltzer water. The last thing you want to do is romanticize the habit. Just forget it, go to the mall or something for the afternoon. Somewhere alcohol isn't served, window shop a bit and then stop at the supermarket for some snacks you enjoy. Watch a movie or play that game you like with the snacks instead of alcohol.
Remember, you are still in the very early stages. You are used to filling time with alcohol. You need to replace that void with something else in the beginning. Eventually, you will see that the void closes but right now it is important that you fill it with something. So go out and keep your mind occupied. It gets better the farther you go. Hang in there.
Nice job. Happy fishing!
Hey Caleb...cannot wait to read about you fishing time. Take in as many details as you see fit and then please, pretty please report back.
Vicarious living.
If you like, post in Weasel's 'Whee!Kenders' thread because I know there is a large bunch there that would L.O.V.E. to hear all about it. This is a great weekend support as well. One of my favorite weekend activities for the last 5 sober weekends (5 of 5...it's working).
I Echo all the great advice above. So true.

Give it another go. Just remember all the reasons why you don't want to drink the next time you are tempted to pick up. The early weeks are difficult you really need to stick out those early cravings to get to the easier part of it. Then comes the maintenance but one step at a time, you'll get there if you really want to. Try Again
Caleb,
You can do this. You did it for 6 days. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Don't use this small set back as a reason to throw in the towel, or to think that you've totally blown it. Don't beat yourself up. Dust yourself off, and start again.
Silly
