Spent a couple of days in detox..
and my life has changed, for now at least. My alcoholism was so bad, I had made an appointment for an assessment, and they ended up recommending I go into detox based on my high blood pressure. I drank a lot. I was going through 2-3 handles a week of whiskey. So I spent a couple of days there, and it really just changed my eyes and way of thinking. Right now, I don't want to drink. I feel like my mind has finally cleared up. Since I wasn't able to perform their intense out patient therapy due to work, I am following up with my doctor to be prescribed medication that will help prevent relapse, in addition to finding a regular therapist, and an AA meeting group that I would find beneficial for me.
I had never attended AA before, but did so while in detox, and it was different than I expected. Granted, I haven't fully devled into it, and what it's about, but was given a 24 hour token coin of sobriety, which felt, rewarding in a way.
I know this is just the beginning of a long road, but I'm at a point where I don't want to drink anymore, and try and make something of my life. I honestly think going into detox was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and all of my friends and family are extremely supportive.
Thanks for letting me share my experience.

Good for you. I started down a similar road almost 2 years ago, and stuck with it and have been sober ever since. Everyone's story is different, everyone's road is different - but we are all fighting the same battle. Hope you stick around and read some posts here, it's a safe place that's really helpful for most.
Welcome to the forum my friend. A lot of good people and info here. I definitely encourage AA also. When I finally made the decision to never drink again, I would go to meetings every day. If you find it necessary don't be afraid to do the same, this really is life or death we are dealing with being alcoholics. Congratulations to you for choosing life!
