Last time

I started drinking again and went through horrible withdrawals and had to have a few drinks and take the day off from work. My blood pressure this morning was 170/120. Last time it was that bad, I suffered a seizure. I have a couple in the fridge just in case because I refuse to do a detox again. Finally called our employee assistance program and a case manager and have a plan in place. I might need to post a lot tonight to get through it. Also, my yearly work review is tomorrow and I can't wait to see how bad this will be. Stressed out about that and trying to get through the night. Got no other option but to tell my boss again. Might be without a job but I finally feel releaved and can concentrate on this.

Sorry for the rant

Geez, how many drinks did you have? And how much time drinking/relapsing we talking, days? Weeks? Months?

Might be of benefit for newer members such as myself for reminding us of the consequences of a slip or relapse.

We could use some more details...........

Coming off 10 days of drinking straight and a lot durning certain days. During the most, 750 ml of 80 proof rum and a couple beers. Least a pint of rum and a few beers. Pretty much depended on how much I bought. I did a really rapid taper but was shocked when I saw bp numbers. When I was drinking a ton all the time and never knew of the withdrawal affects, it was around that constantly. I was on a strong bp medication for a while but when I quit drinking, it dropped dramatically and they took me off it. I've decided it's not fun to do this.

I'm sorry for what you're going through Rock, but here's where the madness can end. You sound ready to kick it out of your life. There's nothing in it for us any more. You can do it Rock.

I hope you are safe as you withdraw - please be careful. Keep posting - we care.

Thanks. Withdrawal is a pain. Just took my bp and it's going down. Got no desire to have anymore. And it feels great to have a follow up plan in place. Almost a big weight off your shoulders. I finally was honest and reached out for some help and realized that people want see you get better.

Rock, even if you won't take the advice I'll post it for others reading.

If you had a seizure last time, it's foolish not to at least get yourself get checked over by a Dr this time.

Be safe, man.

Thanks Dee. I had actually been to my docs and saw him this morning. I had 2 options. Detox now or keep drinking till I can quit. From past experience, I know I'm close to being good but my blood pressure alerted them right away. I chose the dumb method and decided to try and do this myself. I had to have a few beers after just to stop the shakes. I know self medication is stupid but I feel good in my body (shockingly) Just got to try and sleep tonight which I know will be impossible. I will be watching breaking bad all night long

I tapered for a few days just to be safe. I then said screw it and didnt wanna prolong the misery any longer and stopped.

sounds like booze just doesnt agree with you. Thats how it was for me. Once you quit you'll be free of this misery.

Ya know its honestly not the worst thing in the world. Getting healthy and sober at any cost is far more important then any job.

Just dont take your eye off the prize. "staying sober" it can be tough when job problems or having to taper etc.. or what not can cloud your view and you loose site of the goal at hand and thats to get sober. Dont make excuses to throw in the towel etc.. its worth the fight to get through this.

Tapering is rough. I've come to the conclusion that if I don't deal with this now, what's the point of working. I will be back here in a month or two and probably wouldn't have a job or insurance. It's going to be tough to bite the bullet tomorrow but I'm not sure what else to do.

Hi Rock. I hope only the best for you. Talk to the DR. He can give you meds to detox safely. Wishing you the best. We are all here for you and are on your side.

If I went to the ed in the US, would they prescribe me anything to help with withdrawal without an admission? Doctor and case manager are really pushing to go and telling me I can leave anytime. My blood pressure dropped to 142/93 which is decent. It was extremely high yesterday still. I just want to get some mess to go home with
