I wish I could answer your question, but I don't know either.
How I got through a drunken life somewhat unscathed baffles me, too.

I like your post and good for you for not drinking over it.
I hope things on the farm get better.

In early sobriety I think challenges come up to built our sobriety muscles.

Well done Karate! You are doing really great. It's been a long and difficult road but you are trucking trough like a champ.

Take care

You did good Karate. Sober looks good on you. Some days no one feels their best, but it is nice to know you did not do it to your self. Rock on Karate.

I'm on day 4 Karate, not feeling like Rocky also.

But just not having the guilt feeling is enough for me to feel hopeful.
I hated waking up like a dog with it's tail between it's legs.

Hope the heartburn goes away, probably your stomach having a fit and giving you some payback for abusing it! ;-)

Hi karate, I've been following your posts, haven't replied as I don't have much to say that hasn't already been said, but, I'm no different than you or any other alcoholic, just one drink away from being a drunk again.

I don't farm for a living but I help the neighbors every year with seeding and harvest. With the snow we had this winter and now rain over the past 3 days and more in the forecast, looks like at least a couple of weeks before we get into the fields.

Just wondering when you usually get started, type of crops you put in etc....?

We normally plant our forage crops april 1 thru mid april

We cut the first grass hay about now , native grass is an early crop .
On the native grass about 2 rolls an acre is about as well as it gets .

We have in the past raised quite a bit of grain sorgum .

We raise hay , Sudan we plant and coastal hay that is a native grass .

Have a few cows to attend to on his place .

In a decent year we can expect 4-7 , rolls 4x6 . We use two deere balers .
I have a old friend I farm with ,we had 2 separate farms . But it was time for him to slow down (he is 75 ) .

We put both of the operations together , and its been working very well .
I also have a full time job .

Sounds like a good workable situation for both of you. The neighbors I help also have a cow/calf operation. We seed mostly wheat, barley, oats, and canola. Used to put in peas as well, but since most of the land is very hilly, cost of repairs to the equipment trying to harvest the peas made it not feasible to carry on. With the amount of moisture we have to start the year, I imagine I'll have the seeding equipment stuck tight on more than one occasion lol

We have attempted Peas on a couple of occasions ,Our climate wont allow them to make a crop ,9 out 10 years .

In sharp contrast to the Midwest ,and where you are I suspect

Corn and soybeans wont produce here ,Too dry .

This is big milo ,wheat and cow /calf production .

We are in the northeastern part of Alberta, short growing season, always a panic to get the crops off before the snow flies lol. Some people sow corn, but just used for turning cows into through the winter...... We seed around 7200 acres of crop, put up hay on another 1000 acres or so, and they calf out just over 300 cows.....

Interesting from both of you! I know little about farming so it's interesting to me. I've always lived in the middle of large cities.
Happy sober Sunday.

Abcowboys farm is a massive farm compared to what we have here .

That's an operation that requires lots of equipment and labor .

Several million $ worth of equipment ,easily . But I'll bet it's nicer than mine is .

You are not going to work the land y'all do with my stuff

Mine is all paid for , all older tractors .

We are redoing a 4010 Deere for a chore tractor now.

The majority of our equipment is red though .

Good tractors , Lots of them still around .

Auto steer is overrated -imo .

About impossible to use a sprayer without it though .

I guess im changing a bit as I get older , I do like the shuttle shift and electronic powershift in the newest tractor .

Technology still continues to amaze me, powershift, automatics, a monitor for everything, and how GPS and auto-steer can navigate 72' of air drill down the field and keep it straight within an inch!

This year will be a bit different, no cold Budweiser's at break time, but I'm looking forward to it!
