Gave up tobacco today .

I used Copenhagen for 25 years , quit for 6 ,been back at it for 2 .

I decided I would kill an old bad ,expensive habit .

Using the 21 mg nicotine patches , I sure feel odd ,almost drunk and anxiety at the same time ,if that makes sense .

Its not intolerable , but feel disconnected .

I used smokeless tobacco for years too, mostly copenhagen and skoal. The only time I didn't have some in my mouth was when I was sleeping or eating - literally. I quit when i got married but then started back up about 6 years later. I quit again about 4 years ago now. I did cold turkey and very glad i did so. The withdrawal was pretty bad, but only for about a week. Good luck - I am always amazed at how much it costs now, another reason I'm glad I quit when I did.

you know the really odd thing every tiem i did smokeless tobacco i could pick it up and put it down no probelm at all. But cigarettes forget it. I was a slave to them! my life revolved around how many cigarettes i had left and getting to the store for more etc.. lot like beer.

yeah in a week or 2 you'll be fine but the addiction is to the nicotine mainly so patches are great but they do prolong the misery to a degree. I found cold turkey the best route and used the nicotine gums if i totally coudlnt fight off a craving. That only happend the first 3 days.

Drink tons of water and cranberry juice wash yourself out get that garbage out of the system!

ME TOO! I quit today as well. Until I got a phone call about work. Then ran out to pick up another can. I lasted about 8 hours. But I didn't run out for beer - so that's a plus. Bought the gum to use and have licorice sticks to gnaw on.
Today was gonna be the day. I was gonna post it. But then...
Back to day negative 1.

Good luck. I WILL be joining you soon.

I gave it up 4 days ago for the umpteenth time and I feel great. Am using the nicotine gum and actually read and am following the directions this time. This is day 8 for alcohol for me, also for the umpteenth time. Never tried to both at the same time before, perhaps that's the ticket! Anyhow, I feel great at the mo. Congrats and best wishes to you. Smoking sux and breathing rox!!

I noticed that some people who smoke and drink use the other as a crutch while they kick the other habit.

First I quit smoking, then I quit drinking.

Now I drink water.

I think what helped me is that I have environmental allergies, plus my stomach was always upset from the alcohol. I would almost puke sometimes from a cigarette.

Feel a bit " off " today , kind of a disconnected feeling .

A little edgy , but it's tolerable .

After this I'm going to totally quit drinking for 30 days too .

It takes 21 days to break a habit .

In fact , I may quit drinking this week too .

Tired of beer and snuff , and tired of spending money on them.

How 'bout revising that to, "I'm going to totally quit drinking."

Period.

Good move karate. Dwindled my own nicotine habit down to about 5-6 a week but definitely time to move off em completely.

Hope your 30 days off booze goes well too. And who knows, you may even feel better for it

I hate watching my smoker friends slowly kill themselves. I'm almost fifty and now they are literally dying. My buddy tells me she has four tumors in her lungs. Time to "cut back"?? I buried another buddy from cancer last year. Other friends will just wait, smoking, to be taken to the hospital some day.

I started when I was a teen but I managed to quit before I turned thirty, thank God!

It's Somthing that people have I guess.

I have a friend the same way , use tobacco or not , drink or not
As odd as it seems , I get tired of snuff and quit .

Same with drinking , tired of it too
And both habits are expensive.

To be honest Karate, the most unhealthy thing in your life right now is your unwillingness/inability to accept that you have a problem and accept that you won't be able to just white knuckle through things.

If you could somehow realize that and take action to get better with the tenacity that you deny it now, you'd be home free.

I'm not going to dispute what you say .

A little harder to accept it , for some people
I will say there are times I drink more beer than I intended to.

The consequences of drinking at home and not getting in trouble
Or family problems. That serves to make me think its not a problem .

I do think its a unhealthy habit , at the least .

And expensive as well

Got one behind me no beer , no snuff .

I'm happy with my life ,that makes it easier .

For those thinking about quitting tobacco - I'd look into the nicoderm cq
Patches . They take off the edgy ness .

I had the shakes a bit yesterday , but when the patch started working it leveled out .

Patches can be worn 24 hours , but I take them off at night .

On the drinking , I cut it only to evening drinking before I quit
