Welcome to SR Poppy! I hope you read around and post, that's what I did when I was new and found out how many people are in similar situations.

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Hi and welcome. Your only new at your first posting, so you can relax now. Many of us didn't know what we didn't know so feel free to ask questions here and other forums on the site as so much might be new lingo.
Basically people are here to help themselves to not drink alcohol, and the simple way is to not pick up the first drink. I did not indicate it's easy for a lot of us but millions have done it with help of others with the same problem.

BE WELL

I joined this site over a year ago and deleted that profile. I thought I was just here for a visit. Here I am again. Thank you all for your welcome messages. Today has been a day of me obsessively listening to Paul Simon and drinking. I told myself I wouldn't drink today, but I did. I'm not ashamed that I'm drinking. I'm ashamed of my weakness.

Welcome Poppyet. There are many other current and former binge drinkers here. Stick around, you can find comfort and encouragement here.

You may want to take a look at the newcomer's page; and maybe join the Class of April 2014 thread. Many people started their sobriety by joining a "Class of" thread. It's worth a look even if you don't decide to commit.

I'm ashamed of my weakness.
Why? I'm an alcoholic and I'm not ashamed of it. It is what it is. I had to not be ashamed of it being ashamed of it made me want to drown myself in the beer barrel. It was not a good approach at recovery. My point is you have a drinking problem so what who cares dont be ashamed of it. theres a lot worse problems you could have.

My drinking problem is almost a badge of honor anymore. Recovering from it has helped me in so many ways.

It does not have to be a negative thing its not something to be ashamed of. Its a problem you have so what everyones got problems just dust yourself off and try again tommorrow.

each day try again. thats all i do.

Welcome to you too Hawkhog.

I hope both of you will check out the Class of April thread
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-2014-a-7.html

Poppyvet - I remember being ashamed too - feeling like that made it easier to keep drinking.

It took a lot of energy for me to feel bad and try and drink the badness away.

Maybe you can put that energy into making some changes instead?

We all have to start somewhere
