Starbucks selling booze
I always thought coffee houses were like
a safe haven for those who could meet
and not worry about alcohol. There
should be more sober places to entertain
folks who don't drink alcohol. IMO as always.

Just going in for a coffee by myself probably won't bother me. What still gets me is hanging out with friends who are drinking. Now you can't say let's go to Starbucks thinking you are safe there. Your friends can now start ordering alcohol right in front of you. So yeah, I guess it does rather suck for us alcoholics.
I'm dissappointed to hear this also but I don't do Starbucks too much. My favorite LOCAL independently owned and operated coffee shop also has a full bar. But I don't go in there looking to buy booze anymore.
1st thot was this is just capitalism @ it's finest but naah. The marketers of 5bucks must have been off the day this idea or better hung over & couldnt show up to work

It does not bother me, I go to restaurants and they serve alcohol there too. When I dine out, I am too busy enjoying what is in my plate to worry about what my friend or the people at the table next to me have in their glass. I don't drink period, I am an alcoholic and it is what it is.
I accepted it.

Assuming we are spiritually fit, we can do all sorts of things alcoholics are not supposed to do. People have said we must not go where liquor is served; we must not have it in our homes; we must shun friends who drink; we must avoid moving pictures which show drinking scenes; we must not go into bars; our friends must hide their bottles if we go to their houses; we mustn't think or be reminded about alcohol at all. Our experience shows that this is not necessarily so.
We meet these conditions every day. An alcoholic who cannot meet
them still has an alcoholic mind; there is something the matter with
his spiritual status. His only chance for sobriety would be some place
like the Greenland icecap, and even there an Eskimo might turn up
with a bottle of Scotch and ruin everything!

Doesn't starbucks have a drivethru? I hate to imagine people will be ordering coffee topped with a side of booze and the hitting the road with it.
How does starbuks plan on regulating customers taking the open alcohol with them in public? (e.g.) through the mall.
This is very interesting to me and i don't quite understand how this will be allowed to continue.

I live in one of the test markets so two of our Starbucks have been selling alcohol for awhile. Really cannot tell the difference between those that do sell alcohol and those that don't - not the sort of place people hang out to get hammered. See more people stopping in for an after dinner dessert type drink. Really not that big of a deal.
