There are two kinds of people . Those who can drink and leave it.. Those who can drink and not leave it. I belong to the latter I am an alcoholic and am accepting it.
I am new to this and also have a few weddings coming up this year. Fully agree with the comment always have a cola in hand. My comment to being offered a drink will be .. As I get older I am getting to be alcohol intolerant.. Go with resolve what you are going to do and do it wish you well

I can understand early on in recovery avoiding these kinds if situations. Sounds like you have some good sober time under your belt. What are you supposed to do? Avoid every friend and family member that chooses to drink? A huge problem for me in that most of my immediate family drinks.
Well, I did choose to go to this thing and it turned out well. I did manage to get to my old AA meeting in the morning, re-read this thread a few times beforehand, and out I went.
My visiting friend asked why I wasn't drinking, I said that I'd quit, I was asked why, said I had been drinking too much, and that was that. Hung out for a while, drank a few days' calories worth of soft drinks, chatted and then left after a few hours.
Thanks for helping me think this through carefully beforehand.
