Stupid question....do grapes contain alcohol?
Hi guys, stupid question..do grapes contain alcohol? Lol, reason I ask is because I read the smallest amount of alcohol could reset PAWS, I just ate a bunch of grapes, some of them were quite sour, some were very ripe....even if it was like 0.001%? I hope not!
The short answer to your question is, not normally.
As for a more long winded explanation, grapes do contain a great deal of sugar. In addition, a hard frost will damage a grape, cause yeast to get into it and start the fermentation process. This can cause the grape to have an alcohol "content."

Do grapes have alcohol in them?
Not normally. They contain a great deal of sugar. It is possible that 'fox grapes' will occur. A hard frost will damage the grape and yeast will get into it and start the fermentation process. This can cause the grapes to have an alcohol content.

I agree with the others that grapes them selves do not contain alcohol but once fermented alcohol can be contained.
On a similar note... If you ever see "non-alcoholic wine" for $ale, it is probably just grape juice.

I guess they can, who knows. Naturally from the grocery store no. But if you soak them in booze, sure. Or let them forment, sure.
Non-Alcoholic just means there is alcohol in it, just of very little quantity, usually around 0.5% or 1% whatever the legal requirements are.
You can just look at the label and see. Cough medicines have alcohol in them.

Thanks, I guess its possible for very small quantities of alcohol to be in grapes, but regarding PAWS, any amount of alcohol could stop/reset the healing process, could "possible" alcohol in grapes set me back?

Any alcohol what-so-ever could set you back indeed. Yes. No one knows what the limit or line is for alcohol consumption before cravings kick in. Best not to gamble with your life and abstain 100% from any and all alcohol. Just a suggestion, you dont have to do anything.

Snapple
Coke and Pepsi
Bread, bagels, pizza, anything where yeast is used to leaven flour
All fruit juices, really
All vinegars
All fruit
This topic can all get a bit silly and usually end up in reductio ad absurdum arguments that don't really mean anything outside of pointscoring.
I just want to make clear to anyone who may be frightened by this thread that I've drunk and used all manner of fruit and fruit juices, snapples, cokes, pepsis, breads and vinegars to no ill effect whatsoever to my recovery or my well being.

At work we do a daily breathalyzer test on arrival at 0600 and have to present with 0.000 BAC. How many times have I seen guys blow numbers as high as 0.05 after eating raisin toast! They panic but on retest after ten minutes it settles back to 0.000.
Also works after consuming plain white bread.
Digestive enzymes, sugars in bread produce trace amounts of ethanol which don't impair the individual.

Pointscoring? Absolutely not. If someone is concerned about the trace amounts of alcohol present in common foods and drink so that these foods might be avoided, then they might wish to know about larger amounts of alcohol, easily measured, in some specific foods.
