Well that was a turn up for the books...

Went to the supermarket to get some groceries. I got newspaper, magazines and some dinner things for tonight. There was a man in front of me in the queue, looking disheveled and unkempt, shaking, and he had a walking stick. I thought he looked familiar. I looked at him a second time and I realised I knew him. It was the owner of the liquor store where I used to get my vodka. He always had this smirk when I went in and bought two bottles of wine and a small bottle of vodka. Anyway he was ahead of me in the queue. He paid for his paper and said "a naggin of vodka as well please". This was at 1pm in the day.

I was very taken aback at the poorly state of him. He was always healthy looking and well dressed. Now he is shaking and walking with a stick.

In spite of everything, I will pray for him tonight. I'm still surprised though.

Don't be decieved by the way a person looks. I know many people who are "frugal" in their living, few are millionares and have never taken a drink in their life due to religious views, others drink socially or maybe are hard alcoholics. He may have a mental illness. I alone cant diagnose anyone. There is this one guy that likes to roam around to different meetings, he claims to be a millionare, owns countless homes but he always dresses in a construction plaid button sweater, sandals. He spouts off his usual speach not relating to AA or the 12 steps in any way. This same guy claims to have sobriety but I know for a fact he still smokes the herb and smokes the crack. So the next thing to watch out for is what people say.

I'm not surprised, I've seen it happen to people. Maybe he became his own best customer at the liquor store. I feel for him, I've been there.
