How can a drinker help a drinker???

The more you tell a practicing alcoholic he or she has a problem with their drinking, the more they will try to prove you are wrong by drinking more and I say that from my own experiences to, I drank more to try to prove to others I'm OK, then regretted my actions yet still too proud to admit they were right.
Denial, Self Delusion, False Pride, Remorse, Guilt and Shame, just to name a few.
