Greenwood618,
AA works for some not others, RR works for some not others. Personally I use both and more, since I have been battling this thing for eons. we can not pass judgements when it comes to recovery(I think). I use the AV(addictive voice), but just the other day, I had that feeling of a racing heart, anxious..ect when took a nap, it was all gone, so I remembered that I only had 3 hours of sleep the night before, so HALT worked this time. like I said whatever works.

Lol.
I found this thread interesting because I hadn't heard of HALT before.
I realize I am the 'L' a lot. Not that it turns into drinking for me all the time.
I am a social binge drinker. It builds up to 'blow out' nights. But I found it
helpful to know about HALT. I also laughed at the 'shopping mall of life'.
shopping malls scare me, lol
And the response from jdooner. Reminds me of my east coast roots.
Anyways, thanks all!

Just to point out, I don't think Greenwood considered the purpose behind HALT before they posted.
I'm sure they felt that it was a way that some people make excuses for their behaviour, as in 'HALT says that I'm lonely so that means it's ok to drink, I can't help it'.
Haven't we all jumped in with an opinion at some time, only to recoil on reflection? I know I have
Or maybe Greenwood has something that works better than HALT and it just seems silly to them. If so do share..........
Either way, some of the things I used to consider ridiculous, I have since found to be very useful....... Depends where you are on your journey.......

I found HALT useful as a guy in early recovery.
Before I knew myself very well (and I had no idea in the early days)
Often times I would be craving and not know why...
9 times out of 10 I could trace the reason back to one of those 4 mnemonics.
I never used it as an excuse to drink...I used it as a tool to help me not drink
It may not work for everyone, but it was helpful to me

I never thought of HALT as an excuse to drink. I thought of it as tool to use for cravings or stinking thinking. There have been many times that I have had a craving in early recovery and HALT helped me figure out that I mistaking a craving to drink for plain old being hungry. Ate an orange...problem solved.
