Caffeine in alcoholic drinks

The Dangers of Alcohol Drinks with Caffeine | Lifescript.com

Several deaths have been attributed to mixing

“There is evidence that the combinations of caffeine and alcohol in these products pose a public health concern,” said principal deputy commissioner Joshua M. Sharfstein, M.D., in a statement Wednesday. “Consumers should avoid these caffeinated alcoholic beverages, which do not meet the FDA’s standards for safety.”

Caffeine like any stimulant will shut down your natural mechanism to pass out when injecting too much alcohol. Cocaine can react in a similar fashion and is an even more deadly combination - but not legal.

It can be very dangerous though - why do you think Red Bull/Vodkas are so popular? Keeps you up and gets you drunk and btw you can drink more too.

Ecstasy and alcohol is another dangerous combination, as you body looses the mechanism to control temperature and both can contribute to dehydration.

I've seen them sold in gas stations. I think they're a bad idea. I don't even like energy drinks, besides coffee.

My town doesn't even allow the selling of alcohol at a gas station. Not that it makes any difference.

More tragic because kids seem to think that legal things are less dangerous and don't consider the possible risks.

Agree - imagine what E Cigs are going to do - whole new set of chemicals with a more efficient delivery system. Can also smoke in clubs now. Snus - might be spelling it wrong. Better delivery of more nicotine now people are finding it much harder to quit.

We can only worry about our own issues though and hopefully by our example and knowledge help others around us that we touch.
