26 days and feeling like sh#t

Wake up groggy, paranoid, depressed, bad self image. Basically all the signs of a hangover without the booze.

Is this just my body and brain adapting to the changes?

Yes.

And guess what? Never drink again and you will never have to feel like this again.

Thanks everyone, given me a lift knowing it's normal and will get better.

I've been drinking for fifteen years, I'd say five of those almost everyday.

Bluebird1927, 26 day is FANTASTIC, congratulations. It's your body and brain trying to talk you into going back to using. All the bad feelings and junk thinking will go away with time. Rootin for ya.

I was there at 26 days and it gets better! I began to see some benefits from quitting a few weeks later and it has inspired me to keep going. I actually healed from a cold in three days because I was able to stay sober and take care of myself. You are doing great!

I just noticed that it will apparently take me fifteen years to feel normal. I don't agree with that notion. At least I hope not ha ha

Give yourself at least a few months to normalize. It will get better, I promise.

Don't say that! I was drinking age 15 to 39.

I hope its not going to take me 24 years to feel normal.

Bluebird I am 26 days too. I feel lousy. I am sure it's just part of the healing process so I am going with it. I had yesterday and today off work and now I have a three day weekend in front of me. HOpefully i'll feel a bit better by then.

My plan is to stay hydrated, eat some healthy yet comforting food and rest on the sofa watching tv. I just came back from a short walk to the store and drs office and I feel a bit better for the activity.

I concur with those who question this statement. Not helpful, and not true.

It's an up and down thing. I had a great few days, but today (28) just sucked. My old bad attitude creeped back, and I found myself wanting to just quit my job and get drunk. Thank god I resisted that. Visiting SR helps me calm down and put things in perspective. I see it as two steps forward - one step back. I try not to let those steps back deter me from my resolve.

I'd like to quit my job but I don't want to get drunk. I feel like I've hit a wall though. I'm exhausted.

Not sure many of us would still be in recovery if that was true for everyone, whiskeyman?

I drank for about 20 years...started to feel better at 3 months, felt normal at 6 months, and felt like a new man at 12 months....

Bluebird - I'm not a Dr, but google PAWs and see if it rings any bells:

Dee,

That goes to a 'page now found message'.

I thought PAWS kicked in a few months down the track. I didn't realise it was something that happened this early. I thought within 30 days might still be the initial stages of withdrawal.

Shame my favourite link has finally died - thanks TL.
Amended my response.

I believe PAWs can cut in from 30 days, yeah.
