Workaholic is what I was at the height of my drinking. I had to prove to everyone that I could do the work of two or three people in spite of my hangovers. I also found it easy to work 12 hours without a break as long as I stayed focused on that case of beer I had in the frige waiting for me when I finally got home.

At some point workaholic stopped working for me because my mistakes outweighed my my productivity. Never again will I be able to manage my life using diligence, tenacity or assertiveness. I must now surrender the outcome in all my affairs. My spiritual path is 180 degrees reversed from my path as a hedonist.

Diving into my work is what ended up/ is a trigger for me. It's hard to focus on how fragile I really am instead of trying to just be really productive at work and only focusing on money. But I spent so long blowing money on booze, I also want to make up for it as fast as I can.

As Wonder Woman reminded me a while back, we're all in this together. We're the same yet very different, sometimes we focus a little too much on telling someone what to do rather than just supporting each other. Good luck with your new business, but please make time for relaxing.

Balance is important Karate - it's vital...push too hard one way or the other and and you get diminishing returns.

take that from a reformed workaholic

As she should, after all you do not treat her that nicely.
Not a bad night , except wife got drunk , and I let her fall down by accident
After that I had to laugh for a few minutes .

Karate - I have built and sold many successful businesses. My last venture was a flop. My experience is starting a business sober is like getting into a relationship sober. Get sorted, it will make your new venture much more successful and the ability to manage things easier. I with I had understood what I do now. Stressing about things we can't control is tiring when you run a business.

Good luck

2 things I did to excess before I got sober: drink and work.
when I got sober I learned there was more to life than just workworkwork. early on in recovery, I was asked,"so, when ya get old and look back, ya wanna reminisce on all the good old days of doin nothin but work or about the great time ya had enjoying life?"
it took time, but eventually I saw that money wasn't the root of happiness and success wasn't measured by how much money I made. there was no happiness in workin my but into the grave. there was no success with a pocketful of cash and only caring about me. happiness came from( and still comes from) getting out of myself and helping others.
success came from changing my views.

it can be a balancing act sometimes.

The goal is to get it all done and be DONE at 52-55 years old

Worked so long , and so much .

I'm afraid I'm going to have to hire a shrink to teach me how to relax .

Don't worry. If you keep burning your candle at both ends, you will end up with plenty of time to relax in Rehab.

It gets better Karate. I had a lot of that workaholic-take-ya-all-on thing going early on. At some point you realize the only person you were fighting off was yourself. Then you call a truce and find some balance.

A was a workaholic and totally obsessed with it several years ago, doing insane schedules completely out of my own independent choice (I was very interested in the work and also very ambitious). That's when my drinking started to spiral out of control because I used alcohol to relax, I also could not unwind otherwise. Well more precise: did not even try, alcohol seemed pretty easy for a while.

This is how I learned (it had sunk it only years later when in a really bad place mentally) why *balance* is in the center of many psychological therapies and spiritual systems...

i think ya already know that once yer done with one thing, another thing has to be done. that's just how it is. theres always something needing to be done no matter what the age ya are. ya may want to work on discovering whats important and what isn't so important.
before hiring a shrink( which when ya get the bill, it could want ya to work 23 hours a day) you may want to look into some other methods. ya didn't get to where ya are overnight so learning to take it easy is gonna take time, but the more willing you are to want to learn how to take it easy, the quicker it will happen.

It's in the journey not the destination Karate. The sooner you learn this the slower time will seem. It's like discovering a time machine to give you life back. Good luck.

I think you should look at your work ethic in a positive light and be proud of it. On the other hand, the people at my workplace who are always there instead of "something else" I always wonder what they are avoiding at home, if they are using work as an excuse to not be somewhere else or with someone else. Don't know if this would apply to you, but you might examine the idea.
Best wishes to you with your new business. Great goal to have!
