Day 12, and an introduction.
Hey all! My name is Greg, and I am an alcoholic (cue "hi greg!" a-la AA)
I've been drinking pretty consistently since I turned 21 (I'm 27). By pretty consistently, I mean there's probably only been a few months stretch where I've been off booze, but at that time I was substituting with Marijuana, or pain meds. So I can't really say I've ever given an actual effort to be completely sober until now.
Alcohol is clearly the biggest problem in my life. Every huge problem I've had I can trace back to it. I've gotten a DUI, I've lost a car, I've lost a relationship, I've lost a job, I've lost my independence (I live with my mother at the moment...), and I've lost respect for myself...
Lately, my drinking has ramped itself up hardcore. I went from having 4-6 units of alcohol per night, to drinking an entire fifth of vodka every night. That only lasted for a week till I decided NO MORE, and quit 12 days ago, but I totally understand how progressive this issue is. It's insanity.
So I'm giving Sobriety a real effort for once. I'm on Day 12. I've got cravings off and on every day, but I've managed to get past them. I just occupy my brain with something else until the craving passes.
Anyway, that post was quite rambly and probably all over the place. Still have a decent amount of brain fog, but I'm definitely thinking clearer than I did before I decided to quit. I'll keep you all updated with my progress and if (God forbid) I have any sort of relapse, I'll keep you in the loop on that. Luckily, most people close to me know the problem I'm having, so I have a lot of people to hold me accountable, and I am attending AA and a program at my church called "Celebrate Recovery".
Glad to finally post here. Been lurking for a while. TTYL! -Greg

Welcome! Congratulations on your twelve days. Those first few weeks can be really difficult, but it sounds like you're doing great! There aren't any places doing Celebrate Recovery by me, but I've visited friends who do it and they love it! It's really nice for them to have the faith support. I know I personally find it difficult at times to discuss issues I'm having with the people in AA because they are faith specific (although I love AA - I've come to accept its limitations in this area and support its non-specific spirituality because it allows more people to be helped).
I'm glad you have a plan and support in place, and SR is always a great place to hear different perspectives and get some extra support!
