Benefit of not drinking.

Among the never ending list of positives that comes with being sober (5+ months now) I noticed 1 positive that truly amazed me.
Recently I was struck with a bad cold/flu. It was horrible however it only took 4 days to completely recover. WOW.
During my rampage sessions with the bottle, when I got ill it would take me minimum 2 weeks to start feeling a bit better.
All things are looking up!!! Makes me realize how many things I took for granted. Health being one of them.

being out with friends and family and knowing that the next morning you are going to remember most every word you said, everything you did.

I can relate. I've got a bad cold, but it sure beats the fear, anxiety and misery of being hungover.
Glad you're feeling better and congratulations on your sober time.

For me, the most amazing things are the freedom and peace I feel deep down inside. And the fact that I appreciate everything so much more - it really is like seeing life through brand new eyes

I used to drink right through a cold. I am sure I was not doing my body an favors. I justified it thinking that the alcohol would kill any and all germs so the more the better...lol

I am glad you are feeling better and congrats on 5 months!

We all did. I was under the assumption that Vodka killed stomach and head germs. Much like Mouth wash and Hand Sanitizer.

I thought the mouthwash was to hide the smell of the booze and well the hand sanitizer is now being eaten to get drunk...ICK

I know what you mean... both alcohol and lack of proper sleep lowers your body's immune system... so not only are you more susceptible to getting sick- it takes much longer to get well and the sickness has a greater chance of being more severe. Mere colds used last for weeks for me because of this.
