I like to be alone to collect my thoughts and relax. I do have to be careful because alcoholism is an isolating disease so if I feel that I have too much time to myself it's time to kick myself into gear and connect with people.
Cabo,
i am an alcoholic. this doesn't mean, to me, that everything i do or like is somehow a worrisome "alcoholic trait".
fact is, i thrive on being alone. when i was in my twenties and thirties, i didn't. i needed outside stimulation quite often, and made sure i had it.
my need for solitude has increased with age, and to me it is precious. i pay to have more of it: on my holidays, i spend money to rent a nice cabin where i can have blessed solitude for a week.
i neither experience it as isolating or as fear-based or avoidance-based.
i do think that deep down we feel whether it's a good restorative solitude or a worrisome isolation.
deep inside your gut will tell you.
