Pains in The Right Side of My Abdomen

So,

I've been a heavy drinker intermittently (with breaks!) for about 15 years but very consistently (without breaks!) for about 5 years and for the past six months or so I've had recurring pain in the right side of my abdomen. I know that this isn't the place to seek medical advice but I'm obviously concerned. I've done a great job so far at convincing myself that this issue is unrelated to my drinking and I hope it isn't, but really, what is the chance that it is indeed unrelated?

It sounds like you should see your doctor and be honest with him about your drinking. There are tests they can perform to figure out what is going on.

Yeah, it's probably in your best interest to see a doctor for that kind of advice... only thing I can say is that I used to get that after a binge... sometimes it would last a few days to a week but it eventually subsided. I never sought medical advice (whoops) although I know I should. Maybe I'll make that appt...

Even without the rules, the bottom line is most of us don't have the know how to diagnose you - and if there's anyone who has they can't do it over the 'net.

If you're worried, see a Dr, Mark

I had the same pains when I came here. I was worried, scared and knee deep in alcohol. I saw a Dr, managed to get a handle on my drinking (for the most part, I still have cravings) and my fears and anxiety is better.

See a Doc, and tell him the truth...one step at a time

Glad youre here on SR

I've had similar pains around my liver area but was told after having blood tests that my liver was normal and healthy so it isn't always liver related. A doctor should clear up any concerns you have and in the meantime don't fear the worst!

Yes, I used to have terrible pains around that area, usually during withdrawal. I would advise seeing your doctor too.
