I just want to ask a question....
Because our alcoholic life is the only normal one. I thought life happened in my old bar. Through a spiritual experience I came to see it for what it really was, and it lost its attraction. But the bar(s) and my vicarious existence there was central to my obsession with alcohol.

Not recommended in early sobriety - I heard the lead of a guy who described how a relapse started for him when he went into a bar for a sandwich every day for lunch - for weeks. He said he liked eat at the bar and just study the shape of the bottles on the bar - they were pretty, but he had no intention of drinking. Only a drunk (like me) thinks like that Needless to say, one day a drink was added to the sandwich, easy as you please and off to the races again. Thank God he came back in. Don't forget we are powerless against the first drink once it hits the lips - there is no moderation for us. If you must go to a tavern or even a restaurant - anywhere you can get a drink or used to get a drink, it's a good idea to be able to leave on your own (don't rely on another person's car or bus fare etc.) - let another sober alcoholic know you are going, and always have an exit plan. If you feel tempted to drink - time to leave. This is life and death stuff, so take it seriously - you're worth it
