whats the deal with vodka?

just curious, i know there are a TON of people that switch over to vodka when then become addicted to alcohol. im just wondering what makes vodka so special? as opposed to other drinks. they say its odorless and tasteless but thats not true, ive been called out a few times, but i get away with it most of the time. im just kind of fascinated with my own problem.

Interesting question but I think Rob is right - it's cheap.

I tried to make the switch myself, but for some reason I had to drink a lot more vodka to get to where I needed to be than I did scotch. Vodka was never as satisfying for me - plus it tastes like ****.

Never crossed that bridge personally. I would probably be dead. Stayed on beer, still I would get the "*****". Then slow down, get better start again.

I knew if I crossed that bridge I would loose everything.

Gin is my poison, but I can sub Vodka for it in a pinch. Either way, my BF can smell booze on my breath no matter what I drink!

I drank vodka at the very end. I started out with beer as a teenager and in college. Then late 20's switched to bourbon. Then late 30's switched to vodka because bourbon started to taste sweet to me. I would really pretty much drink any liquor except gin or scotch. I could hide drinking vodka by mixing fruit juice in it, or so I thought.

Vodka , Yes I drank that vile , bad tasting stuff too .

It smells like rubbing alcohol to me , I despised vodka then too .

It seems all the hardcore drunks switch to vodka .

I drank Sevdka ,It tastes bad too ,but was about 20$ for a 1.75

It's cheap and doesn't have a distinct taste like rum, gin, bourbon, etc. It's what made me an alcoholic. Vodka is bad news.

It is cheap. That's why I used to drink it. And, in an attempt to control my own drinking, I switched from vodka to high gravity beer. Thats about $1.25 for a 24oz can. Hiding a bottle of vodka, or at least a pint, is easier to hide from others, but I felt if I were to chug those 3 tall cans, I would be "more in control" then I would had I drank the hard stuff

Vodka? *cough*

I remember the first time time I truly got drunk when I was a tyke was from Vodka/Orange juice.

Worst hangover of my life..easily(bold statement). Remember it possibly being comparable to my somewhat recent hellish withdrawal episodes (yes it felt that bad)...truly scarring really.

I actually couldn't drink orange juice mixed with Vodka EVER again.

Vodka must be a special type of booze though, cause, that didn't stop me from drinking vodka/cranberry juice like it was a healthy glass of water.

Still confused over this....why? tricky little substance.

I always joked while I was in treatment that even among alcoholics I didn't fit in because I didn't drink vodka...and they all did.

I was never a big fan but I remember reasons for choosing vodka were:
1.)No one can smell it on your breath.
2.)It won't give you a hangover.

I would've preferred whiskey but vodka is clear and easily mixible into other stuff so as to not look like vodka. That could be one of the reasons - I know I mixed vodka into other drinks so as to conceal my drinking on occasion.

I can smell that stuff from a 20 ft away now easily. I drank it because it was cheap and has less of the stuff in it that gives you hangovers.

It's liquor, just like any other. Some think you can't smell it. Those that think that aren't non-drinkers. I can smell it at 20 yards.

ETA - Lol at freshstarts post, hadn't read it before I replied. Feet\yards, whatever. I can smell the drinks being poured at a bar from quite a ways away....

1. Cheapest way to get drunk per fl. oz. (sad that I know)
2. Easiest to hide on your breath
3. Easiest to hide inside a water bottle, pop bottle, etc.
4. Can be mixed with anything.
5. (to me) least hangover
6. They sell it in the huge plastic jug that will last all weekend.
