Dreamer...the process you used to decide whether or not you should drink is no different than you playing Russian Roulette. You're basically putting a bullet in the gun and spinning it three times. Would you trust that God wouldn't allow you to live or die when YOU are the one that put the bullet in the gun?

If you would, you're being naïve (at the very least). We all know the answer to the question of whether or not we should drink or we wouldn't all be here. If you want to continue spinning the gun, that's up to you. Something tells me you already know the answer to the question you posed.

I appreciate the message you're trying to get across, but I didn't mean to say that I hadn't decided yet. I finally did accept that I had to quit forever, and that's why I'm here, on day 4. I know what I did was foolish, but I was desperate to hear from God. Obviously I was in denial anyway, because most believers say right off the bat if you can't control yourself, don't drink, not keep trying to control yourself. I'm a slow learner.

"I'm getting these 3 bottles of wine to bring to the party tomorrow...". Generally, only one would make it with me.

Love, love, love the sewer quote, too!

The last time I relapsed after 6 weeks of sobriety, I realized just how awful drinking made me look. I barely recognized myself in the mirror.

From being told watching big brother was silly to Diana's death. You name it, I had an excuse.

I was infinitely more creative and productive if I had the muse of alcohol. That is why my house, basement and garage are cluttered with tons of art supplies and half finished projects. And my kids bedrooms only had half the walls painted and paint blotches all over the place.

I did an experiment ,Without disclosing too many personal details of my life ,Im studying to enter a new profession that requires liscences .

There is an online practice test ,I drank 3 beers and attempted it -FAIL

Sober - 80 and above .

Drinking does not help creative ability and thought ,it kills thinking and recall of facts .

That's funny. I have some artistic talent (which I've barely used over the years) and any time I've ever tried to draw while intoxicated, my talent went out the window. I could tell while I was doing it that it stunk, but especially looking at it sober I would be like, what the heck was I trying to do there?

I didn't have to have a reason to drink.

Now I have plenty of reasons to stay sober.

"I only drink on the weekends". Yes but during that amount of time I drank more than most consume in a year.
Great thread here, really enjoying the responses.

"Because I deserve it." I spent a lot of time thinking about how under-appreciated and under recognized I was. Getting drunk every night was life's "reward" for my uber specialness.

Turns out I'm not that special, I'm an alcoholic.

"I only drink weekends and I only drink beer." Just like Jsober. I was in control on Sunday through Thursday but on Friday and Saturdays I made up for it.

However, I would plan events with friends on Sunday through Thursday as often as I could because then that was a reason to drink right?

It's amazing how we justified it.
