The hangovers were the least of my problems when I was drinking.

There are a lot of drugs that hit the same receptor sites as alcohol, the benzos and all of those. They all have very bad withdrawal profiles. If he really invented something that works in a different way he would become a very wealthy man. Could be a lot more media hype than reality to the story tho.

I didn't read all the articles but I wonder if this would be over the counter or prescription. Would a lot of Doctors be open to prescribing a "Drunk Pill". I guess we will have to wait and see what the whole story really is.

When I was on a long sober time ,of a few years ,I was prescribed an anti depressant for anxiety .

Remeron , It was exactly like being drunk ,complete with staggering ,falling down and laughing .

I only took 1 pill ,threw rest away .

Ah, just what the world needs -- another intoxicant.

I hope he's proud of his humanitarian contribution. Knucklehead.

Well from what the article says, he can't even get funding to get beyond the early stages of research, so what does that tell you?

If you think about it, wall street and all the super rich and shameless would be all over this to invest it it were that great. The alcohol lobbies would be in overdrive paying off lawmakers to keep it off the market.

Alcohol is a drug in liquid form.

Substitute one for another and it will become a problem.

I'd rather stay free of anything that changes my head. It's got enough problems on its own !!

Plus as other posters have said. If 1 worked I'd want to take more to get a bigger buzz ...

It seems odd. Before I started abusing alcohol getting drunk was a serious fail. It sucked. I would drink a couple at the bar to become a little relaxed and a little happy. I would quit drinking to avoid becoming drunk. I can't imagine normal people wanting this. Got to kind of wonder who they are making this for.

Same - I just have lost the desire to be "mentally altered". Not sure who to thank for that - my higher power, SR, myself, my family, AA - all the above. It could change I never know - but I have to keep doing what I'm doing.
