I almost gave in tonight...

I really wanted to drink tonight, so I came here to read instead. The voice in my head, although not loud, was really strong tonight. I'm only 4 days sober, so I'm still adjusting. I just want to thank you all for taking the time to share your stories; they really helped me tonight.

Hi Yoyohat well done for coming on to SR, we can gain a wealth of info from these lovely people who are likewise in our quest to stay sober, and enjoy life, yes it can be done without the drink.

You can do it. And you are not alone with that feeling of giving in. We all have those days and good for you that you started to do something to take the focus off the voices. Every hour you are further ahead. Congrats on day 4. Take care.

Thanks for checking in!

This place was VITAL for my first few days of sobriety. I read and read until the wee hours of the morning. Posted, read and read some more. I have gone back so many pages on various forums its kind of ridiculous.

Well done on avoiding that first drink and FANTASTIC job on 4 days!

You CAN do this.

Smart move and congrats on the right choice! The beginning is so tricky because the AV is at it's all time high. This too shall pass!

The first week is gonna be tough, but you have to fight the urge to drink. It does get easier.

Way to go!

Those urges come and go, but are especially strong the first ten days or so. You're in the right place!

No, your 4 days sober, not "only", that's a damn good job, because wanting to stop is the biggest thing to begin with.

Tip: When you get negative thoughts, end it there, it's just your body craving alcohol, it tries to suck you in that way.

Good Job, Yoyohat!!!

Though stay vigilant with the beast. Give it some time and always stand up to it and stay strong. The AV only has power if you give into it. Always, just say "NO! NOT THIS TIME!!!"
