My therapist said I have replaced alcohol with ice-cream, and that is not unusual for alcoholics, and he feels I am heading for a relapse.
And so I have decided to really commit to AA now as I feel like I am on a seesaw, and I just cannot have another relapse.

Sugar is sugar and your pancreas is used to sugar. Your pancreas doesn't care where the sugar comes from either. So if your body wants sugar, go with it. If it makes you feel better the Big Book recommends chocolate.
For the record. I'm not interested in hearing anything about giving medical advise on this forum. Most Doctors and Psychologists have about an hour of training when it comes to alcohol. They're constantly conferring with recovered alcoholics as a means of broadening their knowledge of alcoholism. Many of them find that sugar comes highly recommended when recovering.
just go up and ask someone who knows the AA Big Book
to be either your Sponsor or temporary Sponsor
you will feel better once you get one - even if temporary
