Reacting to a friend's terrible news
A dear friend of mine got a terminal diagnosis this week, and she shared the news with me yesterday.
It occurred to me that when I was a drinker, my first thought would have been how quickly can I get to a bottle of wine so I can "deal" with this. What a selfish ass I was. How would my getting drunk help her? I wonder how many other peoples' challenges I made into my excuse to drink...I can't even remember.
I shudder just to think about it.
Today, I'm putting my energy into supporting my friend.
