Is this normal in early recovery?
So I've made it to the 10 day mark in my complete sobriety, and I feel really good about it.
However, mentally, I feel slower or almost 'brain dead'. Things like normal work functions and stuff are smooth as ever, but when it comes to communicating or writing, or generally using my brain deeply, I find myself pausing more and losing thoughts at the last second. No one has pointed this out but I feel like I'm coming off as slower or 'dumber'. I'm also getting more headaches.
No way I'm taking another drink; I simply always like knowledge when it comes to these things. Is this normal at all?

I had this. I forgot stuff all the time. I dropped stuff all the time. My thoughts were slow and when they did come they seemed to wonder off somewhere else.
This to, shall pass.
I did not realize what a fog I was in back then until I got a little better and it does get better. Not only better, not like you were, but better than you were.
At six months I am clear minded, bright eyed and bushy tailed...lol

10 days is still very early if you think about what you have probably been putting your brain and body through. I'm at day 37 and my brain seems to be more or less coming back to normality the last few days.

today I am 67 days sober and I still feel odd sometimes.
My doctor put me on zoloft 2 days after I quit drinking so I was adjusting to that during the early stages of my sobriety.
I am currently weening myself off Zoloft and will be done with it completely in a few days.
Once the Zoloft is out of my system I will be able to seriously know what it is like to not have a mind altering substance in my body for the first time in 25 years.

hope the link works.
things being topsy-turvy and brain not working "right" is very normal in early recovery. to be expected, really.
