Drinking causes insommia .

My boys have been dove hunting on the farm ,They are both very moderate drinkers .

They would bring out a 6 pack, and we would have 2 each.

Without fail EVERY time I would drink 2 beers I would not sleep .

So the point of this is -IF we can change to normal drinkers ,the allergy that's talked about in the big book is still active .

Without sounding arrogant ,I demanded of my self to whip alcohol and drink normally -And I succeeded in that .

But the part of alcohol that does not agree with my system is still there .

I can drink 2 -regular light beers and be awake ALL NIGHT ,every hour on the hour .

I am sleeping much better without it, period. I never used to have insomnia, but the older I got, the more I had problems sleeping. Alcohol only made it worse.

Since quitting I sleep much better, not without waking, but I don't wake nearly as often.

It's well known that alcohol causes sleep problems.

Well, you might be the only living example of moderation success. If two beers is plenty, none should be easy if you don't have a problem. As an alternative, have you tried switching to NA beer, only the teensiest amount of alcohol in that...

I used to use the insomnia as an excuse to drink in the afternoon. That way, I (theoretically) could stop with enough time to get it out of my system and sleep well. Insomnia is a well known side effect of long term alcohol abuse. It can be a rough road back to normal sleeping patterns, but sober insomnia is so much better than drunken/half hungover insomnia.

Drinking caused all my sleep issues it led me to 2 years of sleep tablets on top of the booze, shocking. 3 nights binging having horrid sleep waking at 3 am wide awake and then the awful insomnia the next two nights when I would not drink. Relentless crap. Now over 600 days sober and free from all drink and any kind if sleep aid whatsoever. Sleep is deep and getting better and better.

I drank for some time, convinced I needed it to sleep. I just didn't realise it takes about 1.5 weeks off before I sleep without it.

i have problems with sleep also, its one big motivation for me to quit. For me, 7 times out of 10 that I drink I will wake at 4am, feel like hell and have problems getting back to sleep.

Was speaking to a guy recently who wouldnt consider himself a drunk and most likely isnt, but he was saying the same, a few beers and his nights sleep is wrecked.

there's a few theories on the net of why this happens, something related to the bodies process of removing the alcohol.

I had insomnia for years as a drinker...now I sleep like a baby.

Try not drinking the beer...like someone else said, for someone of your determination that should be easy.

I bet you find your sleep problems disappear.

Oh yeah!

Considering my usual alcohol intake over the years, i wonder if i ever really got any kind of real sleep other than the weekends.

Yep, alcohol does cause insomnia. Unless of course you have blacked right out to awaken to a horrendous hangover.
I would like to sleep better in my sobriety and have been experimenting with some herbal remedies.

I don't know whats wrong ?, 2 beers ,No beers , prescription benzo"s .

Either I sleep fine on my own ,or very little sleep .

I think im the only person , in the world that can take a benzo ,and still not sleep .

Or sleep fine without it .

Just life I guess .

Sometimes if I really hit the booze hard I wouldn't even bother going to sleep that night. I would stay up all night. That way my hangover didn't feel as bad and I had a better chance of getting to sleep the next night. If I did go to sleep I usually would wake 2 or 3 hours later when the alcohol became a stimulant in my system. My body would process booze quickly. 2 hrs after i finished drinking i would start having a hangover already.

I guess it just goes in cycles for me , but last night I passed out -sober

Got in bed about 9;30 ,and never woke up until about 5 am ,did not get up until 8 .

I guess it is what it is , the work schedule I have , have to be at work at 6 am -30 miles away ,if you want a place to work ,better be there at 5:30 .

Oh well ,semi tired ,beats hungover .

Any amount of alcohol keeps me up... mostly because I just want MORE after I have that first little bit. I've heard "maybe a glass of wine will help you sleep..." Yeah right! POSSIBLY a bottle, but I'll be waking up a few hours after falling asleep, tossing and turning and turning some more, and then finally get BACK to sleep after tossing and turning for hours. Wake at 6am feeling unrested and then complain all day.

Not drinking just works far, far better for me.

Alcohol puts me to sleep better but doesn't keep me asleep better.

I've learned that there is a difference between sleeping and being passed out drunk.I used to pass out drunk just great every night. Now I try to go to sleep it doesnt work so well. Not sure why.
