Revelations of the Sober Mind
Revelations of the Sober Mind
Today I overheard a conversation between two coworkers where one of them said to the other "It's five O' Clock somewhere"
I immediately thought to myself "As a former Alcoholic I don't need to worry about that anymore" It surprised me that I thought of my alcoholic self in the past tense. I let out a grin at the revelation that I have come far enough to have that thought process. Slowly but surely the mental attitude of a chronic drunk is fading away.
Then a few minutes later a younger coworker gave me a Patrick Ewing stat card that he found. He knows I used to watch the Knicks back when Pat was on the team and he plays basketball himself.
I told him pretty soon I'm going to be tuning in to watch him and het let out a smile. Now I'm not so sure if he is Pro material but I thought to myself "Without a positive attitude you'll never realize your goals". I always try to give good karma to others in the belief that it can have a real positive impact on their outlook enhancing their chance at success.
It also made me realize that having a positive attitude towards sobriety for myself is what has brought me this far. So it was revelations 101 today.
My counselor has told me in my last meeting that most alcoholics experience a moment where they begin wanting to help others. He said he thinks I am hitting that mark early and maybe I am seeing that for myself now.
Good Karma going out to all of you. I hope you are all enjoying happy sober days.
