DoubleBarrel...I believe the words "Free Will" are key in my relationship with God. He allows me to makes the choices and guides me and paves the roads with help whenever needed.

Come to think of it, now I don't feel like I'm entirely atheist after all, in the sense of the meaning. I realized that my higher power is no more nor less than my own mind. The very thing that can cause success or doom.

Yay. I have a higher power. The best friend, the worst enemy, the own mind. The higher power that makes mountains move. Neat.

I have always been the driver until I recently surrendered. I let God do the driving now.

That is beautiful, CS!
What's sad about alcoholism is that it can even affect our relationship with God. I know He's always been there for me and definitely has put up some bumper guards or I'd have been in the ditch for good, but I was tuning out of my relationship with him (didn't want to be accountable). Ugh, the damage alcoholism does!

Hmmm... for this metaphor, guess I'll have to say... both! More of a driver at times and in certain situations, and a passenger at other times.

Ditto, except I still have a lot to learn about listening to and acting on that guidance.

Sorry for incomplete info.

Author is Sam Harris. Title "Free Will" ,its kind of mind blowing in its implications, honestly.
