One downside and one upside to sobriety

The downside: People keep catching me grinning like an idiot, even over simple things like realizing I am not ruining dinner by dropping it in the sink or noticing how the leaves on the trees are so green and well-defined.

The upside: Making love sober...oh my!

I suppose there are always downsides, but, for me, they are close to irrelevant when compared to the costs of drinking and the benefits of sobriety.

For me, one downside: some lack of musical creativity. Though at the end of my drinking days the creativity was vanishing too.

Upside: I can finally remember all the piano pieces I learn.

I felt a small lack of creativity in the very beginning but I literally am writing a finished song almost every week now. I just recorded two decent ideas last night. It will come back to you.

Downside: I have the full range of negative emotions, not just anger anymore.
Upside: I have the full range of all the positive emotions as well.

Black Bird, Blackbird is a song written by Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues, recorded by the Beatles and is a favorite of mine as well.

Downside: When I do something stupid, I can't blame it on the drugs or alcohol, it's all me.

Upside: I don't do as many stupid things anymore.

Downside: My yard doesn't look as good now as it did when I was drinking (yard work was one of my go-to excuses to get outside/away from my Wife to sneak/hammer a beer or thirty).

Upside: Pretty much everything else, ESPECIALLY my improved relationship with my Wife...

Same with me. I could see and feel the real world again - including all the dirt I had swept under the rug while drinking.
