I was 275 dropped to 255 pretty quick. Then stablized. 7 months after quiting i decided to diet and exercise I'm now 140lbs 2 years later from my quit date.
For perspectives sake I dieted once before while i draink and was only able to loose 50lbs or so.

I'm opposite. I gained weight after I stopped drinking....about 10 pounds. I turned to sweets especially ice cream when I had a craving. I'm working on changing my diet to be far less sugar and far more exercise. I have 8 months so the cravings are not as intense and pass quicker. I'm also almost 50 and a female so that makes the whole weight thing challenging dealing with middle-age.....but I am sober! I know I will lose the weight now that I'm in a better heart and head space.
I stabilized (i.e. stopped trying to win pie-eating contests) around my fourth month of sobriety and now have lost the gained weight plus an extra five or so pounds.
I'm happy now but was initially freaked out when I started gaining when everyone else was reporting that they were losing so much weight. Depends on your body, I guess.
I did have to drop the sweets too though ,Or i would have been FAT .
I do them like snuff or alochol -dont keep them in the house .
After a year of not being a full time drunk ,160# 6 feet tall 31" waist BIG arms . and pretty damn ripped almost a real good 6 pack too
Im a bit proud of what i have accomplished .
15 minutes a day is all i spend ,easy to do -its a HABIT too .

My weight hasn't changed but my body composition has, drastically. Lots more muscle.. partially from biking and doing yoga, partially just because I actually enjoy moving around now so my days are way less sedentary. So the number on the scale hasn't changed but I do look a lot better. It makes me wish I'd taken my measurements at the beginning because my guess is that the shape of my body is very different.
I put on weight, i've never understood how people lose it when they stop drinking.
I suppose it's what you drink. If you drink beer then that's got a load of calories in it, presumably if you drink straight vodka it has less calories.
When I drank really heavily I never felt hungry, but when I stopped I started eating loads.
