Thanks to everyone here for the great advice. I know this is a long road, but so far so good. I am very proud of my accomplishment. This place and AA have been invaluable to me.
The biggest challenge for me is the panic that sets in. I used to run from stress and anxiety into a 12 pack. Now I know I can't.
Someone the other day wrote about the fact that we are only as old emotionally as we were when we first started using alcohol to deal with our problems.
That blew my mind. I never though about it like that. But it is so true. So in addition to staying off the sauce, I now know that I need to do the work of dealing with my emotions/problems in other healthier ways. Getting back to my true self. The one that doesn't run to a bottle to socialize or feel better about himself.
That piece of wisdom was just one of the many amazing nuggets I have found here. SR has helped me get through this first month without question.
