has anyone ever needed to drink when they wake up
I knew there was no kidding myself when I started putting Jagermeister in my coffee or vodka in my OJ. I thought it would just help get going, but it ALWAYS ended up being just the first drink of the day. Can't have just one applies to morning drinks as well, so rather than helping me get straight, it just got the ball rolling again. Sucky thoughts. Glad that is over with. So many wasted days.
I needed a drink when I woke up. Often I'd wake up for a 'top up' at some stupid time in the morning, go back to sleep and then start drinking when I actually woke up. It's a sign of dependency and shouldn't be taken lightly. Withdrawals can be deadly so please speak to a healthcare professional or your alcohol worker.
It's great you are going for outpatient treatment. My only advice would be to be honest. Lying, omitting things or playing things down will only hurt you in the long run but honesty will get you on the right path much quicker.

yep for years Vinny...you're not alone
I don't miss it tho.
what else are you doing for your recovery besides IOP and SR?
btw I merged your two threads - less confusing that way

I never drank in the morning, because,I rarely ever saw the morning.
I would, however, wake up shaky after sleeping four or five hours, and sit in the darkness, slamming three or four beers just to fall back asleep.

I get long stretches of time off because of my job and make a good living. So when I was on 5 days off I would drink every day all day. The morning chug straight from the bottle of southern discomfort was my favourite. It got to the point where I needed to drink just so that I could keep from shaking down the stairs or falling in the shower. It was a horrible position to be in. Drinking in the morning because you have to is terrible. I was thinking though about societies view on day time or morning drinking and think its rather dumb. You shouldn't drink in the morning because it makes you unproductive, unable to drive, and useless. Well folks it does the same thing after 5 o'clock. You must not become useless during the day but at 5 o clock your free to become a non contributor. This way of thinking is poor. I don't take my seatbelt off after five o clock because that's when your socially allowed to act irresponsibly.
Not right when I got out of bed, but in the height of my alcoholism I had liquor for the morning. You know you are at the end if you are drinking first thing in the morning. Your liver is SCREAMING for you to stop pounding it with alcohol and you show the effects of this in many ways, mentally and physically.

I would have to drink in the morning or I wouldn't have been able to function. It was a must to calm down my nerves.
I am so glad those days are gone. Whenever I think of drinking I just think of the horrible WD and how disgusting morning boozing was.

I went through a period where I would start to get sick at 12:00 unless I had a drink; it was that point that I quit my job.
There are many roads of alcoholism, not all of them include that morning sickness.
Take the morning sickness as a sign though - you're in too deep. You need help.
Life WILL get better if you get some help.
