Drunken Arguments

Does anyone have trouble dealing with drunken arguments and threats made either by yourself or others (especially strangers) whilst under the influence of alcohol?? I'm having difficulty moving forward in recovery (only 7 days) because i keep replaying incident after incident in my head causing myself extreme anxiety
and concern for my long term sobriety. Thanks luke.

Welcome Luke. Most of us have difficulty keeping our mouths shut when drinking because we think we know everything. The practical solution is simple== DON'T DRINK. End of problem. This is the simple things in life that addiction can't see or care about because we would rather escape than face life as life is. BE WELL

That is a huge thing AA helps deal with. We all reflect on things we did while drunk when we sober up. And when we are trying to quit we dwell on it,and use it as another excuse to drink again. "I'm gonna get drunk and forget about it"
AA doesn't change the past, but it helps get those things out in the open. Or somehow gives them closure so we can sum up the damage, and just move on.
Also in AA there are other people that are going through the same exact thing. The other thing that makes it go away is time. Lets face it. Some of the things we do when drunk are injuries, just like a cut or broken bone, only they are mental injuries. But mental injuries take time to heal just like physical ones, except with mental injuries it isn't so easy to see if you are still aggravating the injury or not. AA helps with that also.
AA is far from perfect, but I don't think I would be sober today without it. Just take what you need and leave the rest.

I wish you the best.

Fred

Fred

Fred has shared some wisdom there

there are things that I don't care for in AA either

but

when I was sobering up with not a clue what to do

AA was there for me with so much help

that's why I still go to meetings even after 5 years sober

church is where my higher power hangs out

but

many also have found the true God in AA

as we "seek God with all of our heart"
