Yeah, sometimes I miss my drugs and alcohol, but I don't miss that life

Today I celebrated my third birthday sober. We went to this place for brunch that we have been to in the past where things would start there and turn into an all day drinking and drug fest. At one point I was thinking, this is kind of boring just sitting here eating like "normal people". LOL...

That's when I remembered what someone said "If you don't miss drinking, then you probably never had a problem."

I think when we are honest with ourselves in those moments, that's how we ultimately stay sober. To go around and say we don't miss it, wouldn't be honest and one of the most important parts about staying sober that I have learned is being honest with our feelings. There was a time when I would have been afraid to admit that, because I would be afraid that people might think I was on a verge of relapse. But I have learned that this is me just becoming more aware and honest with myself.

So yeah sometimes I miss my drugs and alcohol, but I don't miss that life, not even for minute.

There is a quote by Elder Richard G. Scott that really sums it up:

“Think of the long view of life, not just what's going to happen today or tomorrow. Don't give up what you most want in life for something you think you want now.”

that sums it up very well for me

although I don't entertain the thought of drinking or using very often
because
I found out that if I do
I end up drunk and drugged in no time

Right now, I don't miss anything about it. If I were able to drink they way I want to drink, without consequences, then drinking wouldn't be an issue for me, and it's unlikely that I'd drink the way I want to drink. Rabbit hole.

Yeah, as with all my exes, I do miss the good times, but I'm glad the relationship is over.

Today I celebrated my third birthday sober.
You're much too young to be drinking . Just kidding. Congratulations.
