Is anyone here?
Well, long story short, after my rock bottom drunk fight and 3 withdrawls later, Im 3 days clean and gonna try my first AA meeting in the morning. I have been reading so many of your forums all night. Some of them excite me, and some of them scare me. But basically, this stupid monster took all the best thing from my past and I most likely wont get them back. Now I have to deal with it for the rest of my life in front of me. I know its one day at a time, but after my last withdrawl (cold turkey) that day cant come.
Im scaredddd

I think everyone starts off scared.
What I can tell you from 6 years down the track is...it's not a daily struggle anymore - I love my life, I love who I am, and I prefer being sober
Early recovery is rough - there's no way around that - but there's a ton of support here and in other places like AA.
Try and focus just on staying sober for now - that's enough for anyone - you can look into all the other stuff you need to fix when you're a little stronger

I dont wanna drink. I think I had a partial seizure or something. Uh huh, next one will kill me I'm pretty sure. Hopefully AA will help. I got almost 3 weeks last time, then I saw a friend who didnt know I quit. She asked me if I wanted a shot and my dumbass went into the bar!
Welcome dalouie, this is a good place to find out that you're not alone.
People you will meet at AA can be very helpful in keeping you occupied for the first few weeks, which are tough. Reach out to them, identify yourself as a newcomer who is afraid they're gonna drink again, and they will help you.
Good luck, keep coming back here!

Congrats on three days. That is a wonderful start.
I am 2 1/2 months sober. I go to AA. I was scared and at times I am still scared.
They really do understand and they will help if you give them a chance. It is sounds like you are willing and have the desire to stop drinking and that is all you need right now. One day at a time.

Too true, night and day. I see SR as an AA meeting that never stops. Never felt more scared than the day I hit rock bottom. Many if not all of us here will know exactly how you feel so you are not alone. Dalouie let us know how your meeting goes and keep getting knowledge from this site and other recovering alcoholics. Share your experience of recovery so that others learn from it and draw hope and inspiration.
Very early on I realized that I was the only one who could keep me sober. I had to take it just one day (sometimes one hour) at a time. I know it's hard, but don't try to think about forever. By taking it one day at a time, you'll find the days start piling up and soon you'll have some significant time, which will give you confidence to keep going. It truly does get easier and better with time.

When you go to an AA meeting, bear in mind that everyone else is there for the same reason you are. And among those who take the program seriously, their goal is to help others who want recovery from alcoholism.
