Anti drug and alcohol movie recommendations

I teach health in a nightschool program for dropouts. Tuesday is the last night and I'd like to watch a movie with them. Can't think of anything though...

Would love it to be in documentary form, but doesn't have to be. Should be something that would keep young adults interested. Movies like Days of Wine and Roses I don't think would get their interest. And there can't be any nudity as I could loose my job. Cursing is OK. Any and all recommendations appreciated. Thanks.

Oh yeah... has to be on youtube, netflix, or hulu too.

Clean and Sober, When a Man loves a Woman, can't think of any documentaries off hand, but if you have internet in the classroom you could probably find something good on youtube and stream it. Props to Brookly! Was born there and washed up in AZ somehow!

Yeah that Clean and Sober is really good. Just not exactly in a documentary version that was asked here... was it for some students? whatever.. Anyway there are some real good ones... if you like horror you could try "the jersey devil", it is a total documentary that.

I hope you find something, sometimes it gets dull without a movie. I know the feeling... I am nearing soberhood... each second...

The Jersey Devil (Documentary) - YouTube

This is a documentary equal to the blairwitch project... so if you really want that... I wouldn't know. <- likes horror.

Well, I don't know if this is really ANTI drug and alcohol but it is good. I worked with troubled teens for awhile and I showed them a episode of 30 Days. They really got into the show and it spawned great discussions afterwards. 30 Days is a short lived series from Morgan Spurlock (the super-size me guy). Anyway, we ended up watching the whole series over a period of a week or so and I was delighted to see the teens able to put themselves in someone else's shoes for just a little while. One of the episodes is about the worried parents of a young college girl. The student has a drinking problem. The mother agrees to drink for 30 days to try and show her daughter what the alcohol is doing to her. You should definitely check this out or any of the episodes they worked great in my classes. Oh, and they are all on Netflix!

An old black and white movie called "The Lost Weekend". It shows what a chronic alcoholic is like back in the '40s and 50's. Surprisingly, it can relate to todays alcoholic.

There is a movie on Netflix called "Oslo 31 August" it is Norwegian with subtitles. I thought it was great. It really resonated with me. It is slow and might not hold your students' interest, but in my opinion it is a very good movie.

Yes! Oslo 31 August is a great movie, but I don't think many young adults would like it.

The Hangover

Smashed

All are movies that are not too heavy but bear a message.

My favorite:
Trainspotting

I dont know of any docs, but I love 28 days with Sandra Bullock. Its a great perspective story on what it means to be alcoholic and a point of view on recovery.

Flight would work IMO. Great message at the end, and it would keep the attention of young adults.
